BBQ skewers

Flat kebab skewers, shashlik sets and skewer racks, usually sold as gift-ready packs.

Buying skewers for your brand

Skewers are a natural gift and counter line: butchers sell them beside kebab meat, and BBQ stores sell them as boxed or bagged sets.

This range covers flat kebab skewers in several lengths, sets with holders and bags, and skewer racks, many with wooden handles.

What to know before you buy

  • Skewers have deliberately pointed tips. Check the tips and blade edges at inspection, and think about tip protection in the pack so they do not pierce it or the customer.
  • These touch food. FSANZ Standard 3.2.3 binds your food business customers rather than you, but it is the best guide to a food-contact surface: easy to clean, non-absorbent and made of material that will not contaminate food. FSANZ lists copper and galvanised metal in contact with acidic foods as a contamination risk; our advice is to keep those surfaces away from food altogether.
  • Wooden and bamboo parts (handles, peels, boards) are wooden articles for biosecurity. The importer is responsible for meeting the import conditions in BICON, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) import conditions system, so ask the factory early how the wood is treated or processed.

Branding and packaging

  • Sets are often bought as gifts, so a printed bag, sleeve or box can earn its keep here. Single skewers suit a swing tag or header card.
  • Heat branding suits wooden handles; laser etching suits an all-steel skewer or the holder.
  • Retail stores will want a barcode on every pack, and major retailers set their own packaging and barcode requirements. Ask your retailer before you print.

What to check before you order

  • Flat blades stop food spinning; check blade width and thickness.
  • Length: 35 to 60 cm suits most kettles and BBQs.
  • Handle material and whether it stays cool.
  • Pack count and storage bag or box, which is where your branding lives.

Branding these products

Most skewers can carry a laser etched logo, a branded tag or header card, or full retail packaging. Each option has its own minimum, which your quote sets out separately from the product minimum.
